    Description

My husband and I have owned and restored over 1000 antique and vintage sewing machines. Both of us have a special affection for treadle machines manufactured in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and these drive belt grommets date from that period.
They fit into two holes drilled through the top of an antique Singer treadle sewing machine cabinet. The leather belt that connects the treadle frame’s drive wheel with the sewing machine’s hand wheel passes through the grommets coming and going from the machine. The grommets keep the leather drive belt from touching the wooden cabinet top, protecting the belt from damage.
These parts are difficult to find. They are made from brass, which is very soft and easily damaged. We salvaged them from the ruined cabinet top of an 1895 Singer Model 27, which makes them 126 years old. They are in good condition, have been cleaned but not polished to preserve their original patina, and are ready to go to work.
